Lightworker's Way: A Spiritual Niagara Column

LIGHTWORKER’S WAY (column)
JULY 17, 2010
As I sat on my bedroom floor in my 8ish year old body back in the 70’s, I began to get the sense that I was different than most people. I had mixed feelings about this, struggling between the steady, media and peer pressure of conformity, needing acceptance of others while trying to pay attention to the consistent yet gentle teachings of the value of uniqueness, coupled with the internal whisperings of yet-to-be-discovered personal wisdom. There was an inner conflict in me between fear of rejection and the excitement of “who cares?” I presumed that I’d eventually figure things out. At the age of 8, I was beginning to experience glimpses of my journey as a lightworker. However, at the age of 8, I hadn’t a clue what this meant. In looking back, I can see how I stumbled and tripped about at almost every turn and event. It’s a good thing I finally learned how to laugh at myself. I remember the day I discovered not only was it ok to laugh at myself but it was necessary – what a weight lifted from my shoulders!
I was one small step closer to figuring things out.
At the age of 15, I remember walking down the sidewalk, back to high school after lunch while talking with my friends. We were all talking about what we wanted to be when we got out of school. I announced that I wanted to be a social worker, which was laughed at and I heard “You? Little Miss Anti-establishment??” I replied to this with firm convinction, “Absolutely! I don’t want to scream in protest from the outside. I want to infiltrate and make change from the inside.” It seems that I put a stamp on my life path that day because every significant situation I have gotten into over the years from that point on I have stepped in, been a key player in change needed, and stepped out, walking away and onto the next situation needing to be stirred up.
Again, I didn’t have a clue. I was being a typical lightworker.
In a nutshell, lightworkers help to pave the way for others to become, and live happier lives, regardless of what that means to each individual. Each lightworker chooses before birth, personal gifts and strengths that carve their own journey towards their own goals as a worker. For me, it had finally been made clear that two of my roles in this lifetime as a lightworker are to be a counsellor and a writer; one providing information verbally and the other providing information in written form.
Come, join me on this journey to self-realization, whether it be a personal realization that you yourself, are a lightworker, or learning for yourself to use the lightworker’s way as a model of self-discovery and well-being. After all, in time we will all be working within and towards the light.
This “Lightworker’s Way” column will consist of a different topic and/or approach to living an enlightened life each month, including: living life lightly, your childhood and family history, a lightworker’s challenges, trusting your intuition, letting go of the fear, loving yourself, learning to go with the flow, and identifying your natural gifts and strengths.
Can you answer this question – Are you a lightworker?
This can be such a hard question to answer since someone who has chosen for this lifetime to live a lightworker’s life, can often be naturally humble and has a hard time seeing themself in a special light. Nevertheless, here are some questions you can ask yourself when searching for the ultimate answer:
Do you feel a sense of time urgency within you?
Do you feel draw to help humanity?
Do you feel drawn to spirituality?
Do you get a persistent ringing sound in your ear?
Have you been told by others that you are too sensitive?
Do you feel different from others?
Do you believe that spiritual methods can heal any situation?
Do you know that you are here for a higher purpose?
Since we are quickly approaching 2012, the time our planet is at its heightened need for lightworkers’ guidance, there have been a wide range of publications popping up all over the world. One book I’ve read in the last year is, I’ve found, an excellent source of basic information needed to essentially educate and train you in living a lightworker’s life. I have also fashioned the title of this column after it. Doreen Virtue’s “The Lightworker's Way: Awakening Your Spiritual Power to Know and Heal” provides a wealth of techniques and approaches to living an enlightened life. Effectively, she ends her writings with a “Lightworker’s Prayer”.
I choose to stay centered in the awareness of love, God, and my true self. In this center, like the eye of a hurricane, all is tranquil, safe, and peaceful. My power, wisdom, and peace come from staying in this center, and I ask for spiritual support from God and his angels to keep my mind aligned with truth. I willingly detach from the material world, knowing that by so doing, I can effectively help others. I trust God to provide my every need, and I allow His omnipotent wisdom to direct me in all ways. I accept a steady diet of love and joy, knowing that I deserve happiness and health. I willingly and lovingly release all ego judgment about myself and other people, knowing that everything I want comes from my decision to experience the oneness of all life. I know I am meant to be a healer and a teacher for God, and I now accept my mission fully without delay or reservation. I surrender all behaviors that would block me from hearing my inner voice, and I happily trust my inner guide to lead me along the lightworkers way, where I joyfully serve as an instrument of love. I release any doubt or fears I may have about fulfilling my Divine mission, and I now commit to staying aware of my inner Voice for God. I know that this is the only tool I will ever need for my own healing and the healing of the world.
Amen
